This is a High Surf Warning message for Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022.

National Weather Service High Surf Warning will be in effect from 6 p.m. this evening through Saturday for all west facing shores of 

Hawaii Island from Upolu Point in North Kohala to South Kona.

Surf will increase to warning levels late today with surf expected to be 8 to 12 feet.

A High Surf Warning means large breaking surf, significant shore-break, and dangerous currents make entering the water very hazardous.

Due to the High Surf Warning, the following are issued;

  • Beach-goers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
  • Beaches may close without notice.
  • Owners of coastal property on west facing shores could experience impact due to high surf.  
  • For boaters, large breaking waves and strong currents may impact harbor entrances.
