The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for the Island of Hawaii until 8:15 p.m.

At 5:10 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over Kau slopes above highway 11 between mile markers 44 and 70. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.

Some locations that will experience flooding include… Punaluu Beach, Pahala, Kawa Flats, Wood Valley, Naalehu, Hawaiian Ocean View, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Waiohinu, Discovery Harbour and Hawaii Volcanoes Park Kahuku Unit. 

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. 

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 8:15 p.m. if flooding persists.
