The grand opening of U.S. Renal Care is on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at 9 a.m. at the Prince Kūhiō Plaza located at 111 E. Puainako Street #101.

The expansion in East Hawaii Island benefits Hilo through lives saved and jobs created. The company spent approximately $10 million dollars to renovate space in the Prince Kuhio Mall, to accommodate 32 new dialysis stations.

One out of every seven people in Hawaii suffers from chronic kidney disease, that is 30% higher than the national average. There are approximately 6,000 residents needing dialysis across the state, and that figure grows about 5% each year. The number of treatment centers on Hawaii Island has not kept pace.

‘With so few options, many patients had to drive long distances for their treatment,” said Pacific Regional Vice President of Operations, Pliny Arenas. “Quality and easy access to dialysis services is at the heart of US Renal Care’s commitment to residents of east Hawaii Island. This clinic took years of planning and construction. It now provides more dialysis treatment times and lifesaving options.”

The state-of-the-art facility is run by 11 experienced and dedicated employees, with more to come. In addition to the most advanced medical devices, patients will enjoy the comforts of free wifi, cable tv, and heated chairs.

Mayor Mitch Roth will help cut the ribbon. Entertainment will include the Keawe Trio, hula, and a guest appearance by Brother Noland.

Patients suffering from kidney failure require dialysis to clear their blood of waste products normally filtered by kidneys. They often need to receive treatments three days a week, for three to five hours at a time. The new Hilo dialysis clinic will provide service from 4:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays.

U.S. Renal employs 430 residents at its 16 clinics throughout Hawaii. A future clinic is under construction in Kona.
