Earlier this month, Kings’ Shops welcomed a new boutique candy store to its family of delicious food vendors and eateries. Sugar Coast Candy is filled with confections from fancy chocolates to a rainbow wall of jellybeans, 50-gallon cans of taffy, and gaggles of gummies and gumballs—enough to make Willy Wonka proud.

Candies are priced by the pound according to type, making mix-and-match easy and fun for the keiki. And, Mom or Dad will feel like a “kid in a candy store,” as they happily dig in to old school favorites like day-long suckers, giant Jawbreakers, Tootsie Roll Pops, and Pop Rocks. And don’t miss the bacon-flavored soda pop in the back.

Kings’ Shops is the second location for Sugar Coast, following the success of its Hilo store which opened in the Old American Bakery Building in 2006. Owner-operator Janice Stanga also co-owns Hamakua Mushrooms with her husband Bob, who had previously owned a helicopter charter company. Janice ran her own Interior Design business, hence Sugar Coast’s inviting, TikTok-worthy décor.

“My decision to open a second store had to do with the persistence of John Alwine and Cheryl Beckley of Kings’ Shops, as well as the dedication and commitment of my manager Jacob Joao,” said Stanga. “By the end of this year we hope to have added a new freeze dried candy section at our store. For those who have not tried it yet, freeze dried candy is truly exceptional and I am really excited about it!”

Sugar Coast Candy is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, follow www.facebook.com/sugarcoastcandy.
