Hawaiʻi County Department of Parks and Recreation is excited to announce that the 2023 Richardson Rough Water Swim is scheduled for Sunday, October 22. The annual event was postponed due to ADA accessibility renovations at Richardson Ocean Park, which are nearly complete.

The one-mile open water race entry fee is $30, which covers the cost of shirts and the timing service. The deadline to enter is October 10, 2023, and registration forms can be found online at https://records.hawaiicounty.gov/weblink/DocView.aspx?dbid=1&id=125473&cr=1 and all County of Hawaiʻi pools and Parks & Recreation offices in Hilo and Kona.

No registration forms will be accepted after the October 10th deadline or at the event. Shirt quantities are limited, so early registration is encouraged. This year, no in-person registration will be accepted. All registration forms must be received or postmarked by October 10th and must be mailed to:

The Richardson Rough Water Swim is held in open ocean conditions and is an event for swimmers with solid swimming skills.  Know your limits and come prepared to face the natural elements that make this event both challenging and rewarding.  Whether taking on the challenging swim, cheering for loved ones, or simply being eager to experience the revamped Richardson Ocean Park, there’s something for everyone at this year’s event!
