Waipiʻo Valley Access Road remains closed to the general public as the Department of Public Works continues clean-up efforts due to the Kona Low weather system that impacted Hawaiʻi Island early last week. The County plans to open the road to residents with valid driver’s licenses sometime on Friday, December 30, weather pending, as stipulated in Mayor’s Waipio Valley Road Continued Emergency Rule No. 2 and Emergency Rule No. 1. Residents of the valley and farmers needing to access their lands are allowed to access the roadway through the weather-related closure but are asked to proceed with extreme caution. Following the clean-up, the roadway will remain under the Second Amended Traffic Emergency Zone Declaration and Second Waipiʻo Valley Road Declaration of Emergency and emergency rules will still apply.

The County thanks the community for their patience as the Highways crew strives to return the roadway to pre-storm conditions.
