The Hawaii County Department of Public Works along with Jas. W. Glover, Inc has begun work on the Kilauea Avenue and Keawe Street Rehabilitation Project. The project timeline is scheduled to end on August 25, 2023. The roadwork is from Waiānuenue Avenue to Ponahawai Street. The project is happening in blocks or segments, starting from Waiānuenue Avenue to Kalakaua St, Kalakaua St to Haili St, Haili St to Mamo St and ending with Mamo St to Ponahawai St.

DPW is partnering with other county agencies, Department of Water Supply, Department of Environmental Management and Hawai’i Gas. The project, when finished, will replace existing utilities, concrete curbs/sidewalks, repair deteriorating roadway, and provide new traffic signs and striping.  

Preliminary road work started on Monday, February 27, 2023 to locate utilities. Major construction road work will begin on April 17, 2023.

No road work will be happening during Merrie Monarch week (April 8-16, 2023)
