Senate President Ronald D. Kouchi (District 8 – Kauaʻi and Niʻihau) issued the follow statement on the Governor’s intent to veto list:

“Members of the Senate met this morning to discuss the intent to veto list that was released by the Governor yesterday. Given the complexity of the measures and the sheer number of bills that were included on the list, our members will be taking the time to thoroughly consider each measure and attempt to understand the Governor’s rationale.

Over the next week, we will continue to meet with our committee chairs and House counterparts to determine if there is consensus in our respective chambers to override any vetoes by the July 6 deadline.”

Pursuant to the Hawaiʻi State Constitution, the Legislative may convene before noon on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 for the sole purpose of acting upon any bills returned by the Governor.
