Continuing its enduring commitment to protecting, preserving, and perpetuating the Hawaiian culture, in partnership with the County of Hawaiʻi, Grand Naniloa Hotel Hilo – A DoubleTree by Hilton will honor the birthday of Queen Liliʻuokalani, during a special celebration taking place from 1 – 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022.

In alignment with the annual event conducted by the County at the Lili‘uokalani Gardens, locals and island visitors are invited to join hotel guests at the Hilo resort for a lively day of celebration in honor of the last sovereign monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi. The hotel will honor Queen Liliʻuokalani with an observance in concordance with its ongoing cultural programming centered around the history and culture of the Hawaiʻi Islands. Guests will enjoy an afternoon and evening of entertainment including Hawaiian music, Hula, and immersive cultural displays including Hula Implements, Lei Hulu, and Hilo Museums. KAPA radio host Tommy “Kahikina” Ching will serve as the event’s emcee and entertainment will be provided by musician Ben Kaili, Hula by dancers Hālau Ke ʻOlu Makani ʻO Maunaloa, Hālau Hula Heleleʻi Pua O Waipiʻo (Kumu Hula Haleakalā Sakata), Hālau Nā Pua ʻO Uluhaimālama (Emery Aceret), and Ke Olo Pono No Nā Kūpuna. 

The Hotel’s Lobby Bar will be open to the public for popular pūpū’s, cocktails, wine, and beer, as well as non-alcoholic beverages from 12 pm to midnight. Complimentary valet and self-parking are available at Grand Naniloa Golf course across the street from the hotel.  

An important figure in Hawaiian history, Queen Liliʻuokalani’s notable contributions include composing the Hawaiian Anthem Aloha ‘Oe and authoring the book “Hawaii’s Story by Hawaii’s Queen”.
