Firefighters from Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA), Hawaii County and volunteers, along with bulldozer operators, continue to fight the fire started by lightning yesterday about 3:30 p.m.

The Keamuku Maneuver Area (KMA) Complex fires are estimated at five percent contained and have burned about 1,500 acres. These two wildland fires which broke out yesterday afternoon generally in the area between Mamalahoa Highway (H190) and Waikii Ranch were caused by lightning strikes. Currently, there is no threat to any structures or communities.

Army and Hawaii County helicopters continue to support PTA, County, and Volunteer firefighters to battle the wildland fire, which is being fed by strong winds. Army and private bulldozers continue to build fire breaks. PTA is bringing in three additional 25th Infantry Division helicopters (two UH-60 Blackhawks and a CH-47 Chinook) from Oahu Monday morning to support the efforts with water bucket drops.

PTA and Hawaii County Civil Defense have coordinated to ensure the public is kept informed.
