Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park Superintendent John Broward retired today after 35 years with the National Park Service. His career began at a couple of South Florida parks including Everglades National Park. John was a long-time employee at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and finished working there as the Chief Law Enforcement Ranger. He will complete his career as the Superintendent of two Hawaii National Parks, Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park and Pu’uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park.

“I have been incredibly lucky. I am so grateful that I have had such awesome positions and experienced so many amazing adventures,” said Broward. “I am left with a sense of appreciation for the opportunities I have received. It is so rare that park staff in Hawaii can work their way up from field ranger to superintendent without ever leaving the island.”

In retirement John plans on spending more time with his wife Jeanette and daughter Fiona and enjoying the vast Pacific Ocean, swimming, diving and stand-up paddle boarding.
