Today, Congressman Kaialiʻi Kahele (HI-02) announced that he is seeking a wounded and/or disabled veteran for a two-year paid fellowship in his Hawaiʻi Office, headquartered in Hilo. The veteran chosen for the fellowship will work closely with the constituent services team to resolve issues with federal agencies, attend local events and meetings on behalf of the Congressman and perform legislative work in coordination with the legislative staff.
“Over 10% of Hawaiʻi’s population is made up of military men and women, with over 112,000 veterans who have served our country with valor and patriotism. I’m proud to partner with the Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program to offer a wounded or disabled veteran the opportunity to play a critical role in our democracy,” said Congressman Kahele. “We owe these men and women a debt of gratitude that we’ll never be able to fully repay, but by working together I’m confident we can improve care for our wounded warriors, their families and all veterans.”
The Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program was established by the House of Representatives to provide employment opportunities for wounded or disabled veterans within member offices.
The program is limited to veterans who meet all of the following requirements: Honorably discharged, released from active duty within the last five years, terminal pay grades at or below E-5 or O-3, 20% or greater service connected disabilities (waived if you have a Purple Heart). Veterans who are in receipt of a 20-year or Temporary Early Retirement Authorization (TERA) retirement are not eligible for the program.
