Hilo Medical Center (HMC) reports that 13 patients are hospitalized for COVID-19, five are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and eight are in the COVID Unit. 

YUKIO OKUTSU STATE VETERANS HOME UPDATE (as of 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020)

HMC reports that 54 residents and 18 employees at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home have now tested positive for COVID-19. 

Three residents are currently hospitalized at Hilo Medical Center.

41 residents are cared for at the veteran’s home’s COVID designated area.

There are no deaths to report today. However, there is a correction of five total deaths related to COVID-19 with significant, underlying health issues.

According to details from Avalon Healthcare, the managing company running the veterans home operations, one resident who passed had a pending PCR test, tested positive with the rapid/antigen test at the Emergency Department. PCR results that came back that last night was negative, according to Avalon.
