The Department of Parks and Recreation has extended the bid deadline for the lease to operate a restaurant concession at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course (“Hilo Muni”) to September 14, 2021. The corresponding Intent to Bid document, required of all entities wishing to bid on the lease, is now due September 9, 2021.

The lease is for an initial period of six (6) years, beginning January 1, 2022, through December 31, 2027, with future options for two additional two-year extensions. In addition, the lease affords the winning bidder the exclusive right to provide food and beverage services at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course.

Situated in the new clubhouse facility at the Hilo Muni, the 2,400 square foot main dining area overlooks the fairway of the first hole and may seat up to 163 people. The lease includes managing the 2,400 square foot multi-purpose room, which may be used as an additional dining area, a special events room, or a themed dining setting. In addition to the 800 sf kitchen, the lease includes a deck area for outdoor seating, an office, dedicated storage areas, and shared use of the golf course’s restroom facilities and parking lot.

This facility comes with great potential being uniquely situated in the middle of the populous Waiākea Uka residential area of Hilo. There is also the reliable stream of dedicated golfers that play at the Hilo Muni (roughly 60-70,000 rounds annually), along with 10-15 golf tournaments that are hosted there each year.

“We encourage all interested parties to visit the Hilo Muni’s clubhouse and get a feel for themselves of the great potential this business opportunity has for the right restaurant operation to thrive in Hilo,” said Maurice Messina, the Director of Parks and Recreation.

“We cannot stress enough how critical it is that interested bidders go online to view and download the bid documents and then submit their intent to bid far in advance of the September 9 deadline,” Messina said. “Missing this critical submission (the intent to bid) will disqualify a business from bidding on this rare restaurant opportunity.”

Interested businesses and individuals must go online to view all of the pertinent bid documents and requirements by registering with Public PurchaseTM, the County’s free e-Procurement bidding and vendor management system. Interested vendors must submit their intent to bid by 2:00 p.m. on September 9, 2021, and final bids must be submitted by 2:00 p.m. on September 14, 2021.

For more information on operations at the golf course or to schedule a visit of the concession’s areas, interested parties may contact Troy Tamiya, Hilo Municipal Golf Course Administrator, at 959-7711.
