Hurricane Fernanda is moving closer to the Big Island of Hawaii.

At 5 p.m. HST, the center of Hurricane Fernanda was located near latitude 17.3 North, longitude 124.1 West. Fernanda is moving toward the west near 14 mph (22 km/h) and a general westward motion is expected to continue for the next few days.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 90 mph (150 km/h) with higher gusts. Rapid weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours and Fernanda is likely to become a post-tropical remnant low on Thursday.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 975 mb (28.80 inches).
