The Hawaii Department of Public Safety (PSD) reports that broad-based testing of 1,011 Hawai‘i inmates was completed yesterday at the Saguaro Correctional Center in Eloy, Arizona. Results are expected to take up to three days to receive. The total number of Hawai‘i inmates in medical isolation at Saguaro with active positive COVID cases is currently 61. The total number in the hospital dropped from six to five after one inmate was cleared to return to the facility. The Hawai‘i inmates with pending test results will remain in a precautionary quarantine until the results are received.

Department of Health (DOH) testing of O‘ahu Community Correctional Center (OCCC) inmates and staff is continuous. Of the three inmate test results received, one was positive and two were negative. There are no OCCC inmates in the hospital. No new OCCC staff results were received. PSD’s Health Care Division is working with DOH, the Hawai‘i National Guard (HING) and community partners, to conduct mass testing for COVID-19 at all other correctional facilities statewide. The five test results received for Hawaii Community Correctional Center inmates were negative. Additionally, 90% of PSD staff who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered.
