February was Hawaiʻi Invasive Species Awareness Month. In the appreciation of the people & organizations across the state for their immense efforts to protect Hawaiʻi from invasive species, HISAM has coordinated awards that recognize the contributions of individuals, organizations, and businesses.

The 2021 HISAM Award recipients are presented below:

  • 2021 Oʻahu MVP Award-Kyoko Johnson with Conservation Dogs of Hawaiʻi
  • 2021 Kauaʻi MVP Award-Kaniela & Janoah Young
  • 2021 Maui Nui MVP Award-Keith Ideoka, Lahainaluna High School
  • 2021 Hawaiʻi Island MVP Award-Carolyn Wong, USDA NRCS
  • 2021 Community Hero Award-John Phelps
  • Business Leader 2021-Bill Hendershot & Maui Disposal

The 2021 HISAM Awards were presented virtually by State legislators. Mahalo to Senate President Kouchi, Representative Tokioka, Representative Morikawa, Representative Nakamura, Senator Gabbard, Representative Wildberger, Representative DeCoite, Representative Lowen, and Representative Tarnas for helping us go virtual in 2021, and congratulations to all the award recipients!
