Big Island Paddler Chad Cabral recounts the moment a fish in Hawaii pierced his canoe after a bunch of ‘aha were scared into changing course, flying out of the water towards him, and how he dealt with the situation on hand on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020.

“My wa’a (canoe) got a drive-by this morning outside of King’s landing. Something startled a school of 30-40 large ‘aha and they shot out of the water right to the canoe,” said Cabral on Facebook.

“One went right through the hull,” Cabral said. ” Was ready for go swimming but managed to get to Puhi Bay to check out the damage. Nose of the ‘aha actually plugged the hole it made and sealed the hull. Chee! Hopped back on and finished up my workout, fish bondo and all. Bayfront-Kings Landing-Bayfront, 12-miles in the bank. Action!”
