UFC GYM, the first major brand extension of UFC, celebrated the grand opening of its first location on the Island of Hawaii today with its 20,000-square-foot Hilo facility.

The facility is owned by UFC Hall of Famer and Hilo resident BJ Penn, who was overcome with emotion when asked to speak about the opening.

The fitness center celebrated with a lineup of the brand’s signature fitness classes featuring special guest UFC athlete Josh Thomson, demonstrations led by Penn, and tours of the facility.

The new multi-million-dollar facility offers a boutique-style group fitness classes.

It also has a weight room with free weights and Olympic lift platforms, robust cardio and strength training equipment, functional training area with indoor turf and a bag room.

An Octagon for combat sports training, pre- and post-workout recovery services area and more.

The center also has a drop-in childcare area.

The gym is located at 777 Kinoole St. in Hilo (the former Hilo Lanes Bowling Center).
