Students at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo are encouraged to respond to an email sent out Friday with information on how to submit an application for emergency aid.

UH Hilo today launched the application for the most recent round of emergency aid to be paid directly to students. This round of emergency aid is being funded by the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund provided to UH Hilo via the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 (CRRSAA).

According to the Division of Student Affairs, based on current guidance from the U.S. Department of Education, the 2,864 currently enrolled students who UH Hilo deemed eligible to apply for these funds were sent an email notifying them about availability of the funding and how to submit an application. The email instructed students to complete a simple, two-question Google form by April 21, 2021.

“Eligible students can access a grant of up to $1,000 to help with cost of attendance and/or emergency costs due to COVID-19,” said Farrah-Marie Gomes, vice chancellor for student affairs, in an email.

Eligible students who received today’s email make up over 93% of UH Hilo’s current enrollment. Excluded from this round of eligibility are early admit students and employees, spouses, and domestic partners utilizing tuition waivers for this semester.

Students are asked to check their @hawaii.edu email account for the notice and take swift action on the request.
