Forty-two officers were honored today during a modified promotion ceremony at the Honolulu
Police Department’s Alapai headquarters.

Promoted to the rank of assistant chief is Mark Thompson. The 30-year veteran will head the
Regional Patrol Bureau. Prior to his promotion, he was the major of District 2 (Wahiawa/North
Shore) and the Specialized Services Division.

Promoted to the rank of assistant chief is Calvin Tong. The 35-year veteran will head the
Investigative Bureau. Prior to his promotion, he was the major of the Traffic and Narcotics/Vice
Divisions.

Promoted to the rank of major are Gordon Lum Kee, Brian Lynch, Randall Platt, and Robert
Towne. Lum Kee has 31 years of service and will command District 2, where he served as the
executive officer. Lynch has 30 years of service and will command District 7 (East Honolulu),
where he served as the executive officer. Platt has 22 years of service and will command the
Traffic Division. He previously served as the executive officer at the Training Division and
District 4 (Windward Oahu). Towne has 40 years of service and will command District 3 (Pearl
City/Waipahu). He previously served as the executive officer of District 5 (Kalihi).

Promoted to the rank of captain are Parker Bode, Sandi Fujitani-Awaya, Ryan Hironaka, Carlene
Lau, and Deric Valoroso. Bode has 11 years of service and will serve as the executive officer of
the Chief’s Office. Fujitani-Awaya has 27 years of service and will serve as the executive officer
of the Human Resources Division. Hironaka has 16 years of service and will serve as the
executive officer of the Professional Standards Division. Lau has 20 years of service and will
serve as the executive officer of the Records and Identification Division. Valoroso has 24 years
of service and will serve as the executive officer of the Major Events Division.

The new lieutenants include:

  • David Kauahi, District 3
  • Andrew Maddock, Criminal Investigation Division
  • Joseph O’Neal, Community Outreach Unit

The new sergeants include:

  • Brad Freitas, District 7
  • Philibert Kauffman, District 7
  • Ross Malloy, District 5
  • Marvin Parengit, District 6 (Waikiki)
  • Tracy Tamondong, District 6

The new detectives include:

  • Thomas Adriance Jr., District 1 (Central Honolulu)
  • Reid Asamura, Criminal Investigation Division
  • Richmond Casabar, Criminal Investigation Division
  • Thomas Iinuma, Criminal Investigation Division
