After notification of next of kin, the man that was found in need of medical attention at the Kailua Pier on Friday, April 30, 2021, has been positively identified as 73-year-old Stephen Lacey of Kailua-Kona.
 
The investigation is currently classified as a coroner’s inquest pending receipt of the autopsy results.
 
On Friday, April 30, 2021, at approximately 1:16 p.m., Kona Patrol and Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) officers responded to a call at the Kailua Pier of a man in need of medical attention. Upon arrival, Hawaiʻi Fire Department personnel transported Lacey to Kona Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
