Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that 35 year-old Jeremy John Jensen, of Ocean View, was charged for possession of methamphetamine and heroin and firearms offenses today.

As the Complaint alleges, Jensen, who has a prior 2020 conviction for Ownership or Possession of Firearm Prohibited, was charged with eight (8) offenses including Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the First Degree (possession of over an ounce of methamphetamine), Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree (possession of over an eighth of an ounce of heroin), two counts of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree (possession of methamphetamine), Ownership or Possession Prohibited of Firearm, Place to Keep Pistol or Revolver, Butterfly Knives Prohibited, and Place to Keep Ammunition. Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the First Degree, the most serious offense, is a class A felony offense which carries a maximum penalty of twenty (20) years in prison. If convicted as charged of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the First Degree, Jensen faces a mandatory prison term.

Jensen made his initial appearance in Kona District Court. Judge Kimberly Taniyama set bail at $27,000. Despite the ruling, Prosecutors intend to file a motion requesting to increase Jensen’s bail based on the serious of the offenses and his prior criminal history. Judge Taniyama ordered Jensen to appear for his preliminary hearing on November 8th in Kona District Court.

The investigation was handled by Officer Stephen Kishimoto, with the assistance of Canine Rory, and members of the Area II Vice Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Nicole Bowman.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
