ORIGINAL POST: The Hawaii Police Department reports that one lane is CLOSED on Hwy 19 near the 22 mile marker at Maulua Gulch in North Hilo due to a landslide.

Expect delays. Please drive with caution as the area is experiencing heavy rainfall and water runoff on the roadways. 

The National Weather Service has also extended the Flood Advisory for the Big Island.

At 1:06 p.m., radar indicated heavy showers over the Hamakua, Hilo and Puna Districts, with rainfall rates up to 2 inches per hour leading to dangerously low visibility at times. Additional heavy showers and thunderstorms will develop over the slopes of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa through the afternoon. 

Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Pepeekeo, Hawaiian Acres, Hawaiian Beaches, Leilani Estates, Ainaloa, Keeau, Kurtistown, Orchidland Estates, Nanawale Estates, and Pahoa.
