In commemoration of Earth Day 2021, the Hawaii Army National Guard’s (HIARNG) Environmental Office will kick off its pledge, on behalf of the State Department of Defense (DOD), to the Governor’s/DLNR’s Climate Change Initiative, 1 Trillion Trees Initiative (1t.org), which is designed to mitigate the effects of climate change.

By planting, restoring and conserving a trillion trees, over a ten year period, the goal is to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which contribute to climate change.

HIARNG ENV will initiate its pledge on Tuesday, April 22, by planting at least 30 trees at the Regional Training Institute, in Waimanalo, Oahu and plant about 175 trees at the Keaukaha Military Reservation, in Hilo, Hawaii Island.

Volunteers, from the Hawaii National Guard, are invited to participate in the plantings, and the core group will be made up of HIARNG ENV staff.
