The Hawaii Fire Department responded to a hiker in distress on Mauna Kea on Monday, Dec. 28, 2020 around 2:35 p.m.

The hiker was located on a hiking path about two miles above Hale Pohaku, one mile below Lake Waiau at approximately the 13,000 elevation. 

According to HFD reports, the hiker sprained both her knees and was unable to walk back to her vehicle and she was treated for her injuries, put on a spine-board and loaded into a rescue litter for extrication.
