The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the Flood Advisory for the island of Hawaii until 9 p.m.
At 7:09 p.m. radar showed heavy showers extending south along the coast from Kailua-Kona to Kealakekua. The heavy rain was steadily shifting northward along the coast with rainfall rates up to 1 to 3 inches per hour.
Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Holualoa, Honalo, Kahaluu-Keauhou, Kainaliu, Kalaoa, Kealakekua and Kona International Airport.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
- Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding.
- Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
- Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don’t drown.
