It is officially National Diaper Need Awareness Week in the State of Hawai’i. Hawaii Diaper Bank (HDB), the very first nonprofit in Hawai’i to provide free diapers, wipes and other children’s basic essentials to low-income families with young children, will hold its 3rd annual “Wipe Out Diaper Need” fundraising event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the W.M. Keck Observatory Headquarters in Waimea. “Wipe Out Diaper Need” is a family-friendly event featuring performances by ‘Alohi Polynesian Dance Academy music and live performances from Lopaka Rootz and Friends. Bounce house, touch a truck, face painting and more keiki activities all to raise funds for programing. There will be local food and craft vendors as well as some exciting giveaways and silent auction items to bid on.

“Diaper need impacts one in three families, and there are no government programs focused on addressing diaper need. As we have grown we are serving over 400 keiki every month on Hawai’i Island, and this year sent our first bulk donation to O‘ahu and second bulk donation to Moloka‘i” says HDB Founder and President Jessica Histo.

This event is special to Hawai’i Diaper Bank as they look forward to not only raising awareness but supporting the community and local small businesses while providing something fun for the whole family. HDB has received their 4th Hawai’i County Proclamation and 3rd State Proclamation. Mayor Mitch Roth is scheduled to present a proclamation in person.

“Wipe Out Diaper Need” is timed to coincide with the end of the National Diaper Bank Network’s Diaper Need Awareness Week (Sept. 24-Oct. 2), an annual campaign during which diaper banks from around the country work together with state and local governments to raise awareness about diaper need and plan events to rally sustainable support for diaper bank programs. As part of its Diaper Need Awareness Week efforts, and in connection with Wipe Out Diaper Need, HDB is asking for donations of diapers and wipes to support local families in Hawaii. Multiple drives island wide have been happening since the beginning of September their behalf.

HDB is also providing another bulk donation for the Family Hui Hawai’i and Parents And Children Together (PACT) “Drive-By for ‘Ohana Essentials” event happening also on Saturday October 1st from 10 a.m. to noon on O‘ahu at Kuhio Park Terrance Resource Center. Along with it’s regular programing it is the perfect way to support more of Hawaii’s keiki during National Diaper Need Awareness Week.

“The success of our mission depends on the support and participation of people of all ages. We are excited to recognize Diaper Need Awareness Week and present “Wipe Out Diaper Need”, said Histo.

All proceeds from “Wipe Out Diaper Need” will go towards supporting HDB’s mission to ensure that all Hawaii Island keiki are clean, dry, and healthy.
