The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) responded to a fire on Nenue Street in Puna on Sunday, Oct. 24, at 1:55 p.m.

Upon arrival fire fighters found a 25′ x 25′, wood framed free standing carport partially burning due to a passenger vehicle fully involved in fire.

The fire was contained to the vehicle and the carport with no involment to the residential structure. The owner of the property was on scene.

The owner said he came home to find his car on fire.

The fire was extinguished and overhauled by company 10. All other HFD units enroute were cancelled.

Hawaii Police Department officers arrived on scene and started gathering info from the owner as well as neighbors. HFD units returned to quarters after extinguishment operations were complete.

Damage was estimated at $20,000.
